A rich pairing of images and words
We tend to focus on the words here at Casa Urraca Press. Makes sense—we’re book people.
Today, though, it’s the imagery’s turn to shine.
Barbara Byers’ richly textured black-and-white photographs add depth to this book of Margaret Randall’s poems and offer the reader a different chance to pause and contemplate.
Here is a sampling of Byers’ work as our gift to you today.
Take in more of these photographs from STORMCLOUDS LIKE UNKEPT PROMISES, the collaboration between Barbara Byers and Margaret Randall.

About the Artist
Barbara Byers has tried to study art in formal ways but is mostly self-taught. She worked in sign shops in Denver and Albuquerque to learn that art form. She has lived in Albuquerque for more than forty-five years, painting signs, teaching kids with special needs, and making art. Her heart-home is the desert and slickrock country of the Colorado Plateau.
Barbara has shown her work in galleries, museums, and coffee shops in the United States and Cuba. She is a member of Libros, an Albuquerque bookmakers guild, and participates in group shows of handmade artist books. She and Margaret have collaborated in the past, Barbara often contributing cover art or interior drawings for Margaret’s books. The photographs in this one were made as Barbara explored her neighborhood and home, noticing shapes and details.
