A Year of New Mexico Poetry:
Call for submissions

Casa Urraca Press is seeking original poems for a new collection of New Mexico poetry. This collection, edited by Amaris Feland Ketcham and Zach Hively, will feature one poem for each day of the year, offering readers a daily reflection on the richness of our state’s people, cultures, communities, and land. We are seeking original poetry, both unpublished and previously published. 

Whether you’re inspired by nature, history, or the everyday moments of New Mexican life, we want to read your verse. 

What we’re looking for:

  • Poems that show an affinity for New Mexico and appreciation of its land, peoples, cultures, languages, and traditions. 

  • Thoughtful and uplifting work that captures the flavors of New Mexican life, from the poignant to the playful, the historical to contemporary.

  • Seasonal poems that evoke different cycles and traditions of the year, as well as timeless pieces that transcend calendar dates. 

Submission considerations:

  • All forms of poetry accepted

  • Multilingual works accepted (please include an English translation of non-English works)

  • We welcome poems and poets that represent the diverse perspectives, languages, and backgrounds that contribute to New Mexico 

  • Both as-yet unpublished and previously published work accepted. Poets must hold copyright for previously published pieces, with reprint rights available

  • All work must be submitted by the author or author’s direct representative

  • Line limit: no more than 34 lines per poem (including blank lines)

  • Submit up to five poems in a single document (PDF or Word file, please)

  • Submission window: Open through July 31, 2025.

  • Each accepted poet will receive a contributor copy as compensation, as well as discounted contributor pricing on additional copies. Authors retain full copyright to their work.
